Micro Wedding on the Colorado National Monument

Real micro wedding written and photographed by Amanda of Amanda Matilda Photography

Jenna and Logan’s micro wedding on the Colorado National Monument was an intimate celebration that fully captured the values and personality of these two, from their love of nature and the Grand Valley to their care and advocacy for animals.

The pair shared a first look by the Saddlehorn – a rock fixture nearby their wedding site. The area had Secret Garden vibes with the juniper archway under which they shared private vows. After a few couples portraits with the red rocks, we headed back to the wedding site as we awaited the bus that shuttled their guests to the wedding. There’s limited parking at the Monument, and shuttles are a perfect way to ensure your wedding there is stress-free for everyone and a minimal impact on the park!

The wedding ceremony overlooked the canyons below, dubbed the “Heart of the World” by John Otto who, like Jenna and Logan, adore the natural beauty found here.

With Jenna’s connection to Roice-Hurst and both of them caring deeply for animals, the shelter provided kittens for the wedding ceremony, which her bridesmaids carried instead of bouquets! If you’re looking for ways to make your ceremony the cutest thing in the world, kittens are the answer. The pair even had a kitten sign as witness on their marriage license.

As the ceremony was unfolding, Jenna and Logan’s rings were being passed around their guests in a ring warming ceremony, each loved one imbuing the rings with well-wishes and love for their future. After each guest bestowed their good vibes, the rings were exchanged by the couple and they shared their first kiss as a married couple.

They held a mini reception at a nearby picnic area, catered by Sodexo. Their cake was topped with polaroids of their fur babies to include them in the day. Guests worked to complete the wedding ‘zine Jenna and Logan created to share their story and create some fun games for their guests. As the sunset came nearer, their guests were shuttled back down into Fruita and many headed to the after party gathering (the Monument doesn’t allow long or large gatherings, so this is a great option if you’re thinking about a similar celebration!)

It really was the perfect, chill day in a beautiful place that these two call home! Take a peek at some highlights from their micro wedding on the Colorado National Monument:
