Establishing Your Micro Wedding Vision

January 7, 2024

Alright…let’s talk vision (or vibe, or theme, or whatever term resonates most with you)!

Whether you're already a pro at Pinterest mood boards or have never thought about what your special celebration will look like, it's time to get inspired and start planning. Trust us, establishing a clear idea of your vision can be the most fun part of the process! So, let's get started and make your big day everything you've always dreamed of.

What’s Your Vibe

We like to do things a little differently here at microWED collective, so we're highlighting five unique ways to shape your wedding vision. Throw out the bridal magazines and the Pinterest boards, and let's get into reality for a minute. Now, don't get me wrong, I love looking at all the incredible weddings featured on big wedding blog sites, too, but let's get real...there is so much uniqueness and nuance in every couple that it's good to step away from those every once and a while to really examine what is important to you as a couple, and that includes all the little everyday life things--those can come to life in a really special way on your wedding day.

These activities are meant to help you find inspiration in new and different ways. A massive benefit to micro weddings and elopements is that these very details you're about to imagine here can come to life in your intimate celebration. We're big fans of "you do YOU," and this is one of the ways to do that!

5 Unique Ways To Find Inspiration

Spend a day (re)exploring your favorite places, and notice what you like about those places

  • is it how it looks?
  • makes you feel?
  • is it the taste or smell?
  • the sounds?
  • the energy?
  • the people?

Plan a date and take a walk down memory lane

  • vacations you've taken
  • significant events you've attended together
  • special dates you've been on

What about those experiences made them special or memorable? Similar to the one above, consider all the senses and the environment as a whole.

Snuggle up on the couch and look back at your pictures together

  • where were you?
  • who were you with?
  • how were you feeling?
  • what were you doing?

Pull out your bucket list

  • what do you dream of one day doing together?
  • is there a dream vacation or location you've always wanted to visit?

Consider the things that are just simply undeniably you as a couple

  • When people think of you together, what do they think of?
  • When you see people you haven't seen in a while, what do they ask about?
  • What physical places make you the most happy as a couple?
  • What were some things that you enjoy doing as a couple regularly?

Now, remember you're probably not going to be able to incorporate everything into your day or weekend, but this can help you think outside the box when considering unique touches to add to your day. If you're using a wedding planner (10/10 recommend), sharing these details with them can help them drum up some unique ideas to make your wedding day 100% you.

You might be wondering how to incorporate this stuff into your event. The possibilities are endless--here are a few:

  • Location
  • Venue type
  • Attire
  • Ceremony or reception venue
  • First Dance
  • Invitations
  • Decor
  • Color theme
  • Food
  • Wedding favors
  • Reception props
  • Cake or dessert theme

Your wedding does not need to look like everything you see online. The industry paints a picture of the "ideal," and I am not knocking it; as I said, you do YOU, and if that's you, then by all means, do it. If you find yourself conflicted because something has been a part of every wedding you've ever been to, but it's not your jam, consider this your permission slip to do it differently.
